The adhesion of bitumen to mineral materials depends both on the adhesive properties of the bitumen used and on the mineralogical composition of the mineral materials. Petroleum bitumen used in road construction is characterized by a variety of composition and complexity of the physico-chemical structure, which depend both on the nature of the oil raw materials and on the technology of its processing. For the most part, due to their susceptibility to oxidation processes during production, road petroleum bitumen produced in Russia according to GOST 22245-90 does not provide the necessary requirements for adhesion to mineral materials.

The mineral materials used in road construction are characterized by various surface structures and, due to the diversity of their mineralogical composition, certain acid-base properties. These properties of the mineral material determine the nature and strength of the binder's interaction with its surface.

Thus, one of the determining conditions for obtaining high-quality asphalt concrete is a good adhesion of bitumen to mineral material, which is ensured primarily by good wetting and chemical interaction of the active components of bitumen and mineral material. The solution to this problem is achieved by using adhesive additives with surface-active properties that enhance adsorption and chemisorption processes on the surface of the mineral material. The most effective in terms of spectrum of action, adhesion index, and consumption per 1 ton of bitumen are cationic surfactants, which are most often used in road construction as amidoamines, imidazolines, amino compounds, and their salts.

During its activity "AMDOR" LLC has carried out the development and organized the industrial production of several brands of adhesive additives. ""AMDOR-9" and "AMDOR-10" adhesive additives have found the most widespread use in recent years. For most bitumen and mineral materials used, including acidic rocks such as granites, the effective concentration of additives in bitumen is in the range of 0.2-0.5%. This ensures adhesion at the level of control sample No. 1 when tested according to GOST 11508-74. Adhesive additives ""AMDOR-9"" and "AMDOR-10" are technologically advanced and retain their adhesive properties when introduced into bitumen at temperatures up to 160 ° C for up to 72 hours.

"AMDOR"10 adhesive additive, which is an improved analogue of "AMDOR-9" additive, is characterized by improved organoleptic properties, lower viscosity and lower temperature loss of fluidity (up to -3 ° C), which allows its use in conditions of low temperatures.

When using ""AMDOR-9" and "AMDOR-10" adhesive additives in the amount of 1.5-5 kg of bitumen (0.15/0.50%): A high degree of adhesion of bitumen to mineral materials is achieved.

""The most important factor in the effectiveness of AMDOR-9" and "AMDOR-10" adhesive additives is the improvement of the properties of asphalt concrete mixtures (ABS) prepared on the basis of bitumen with additives. Numerous tests conducted in specialized road laboratories allow us to draw important conclusions:

  1. When using adhesive additives, the water saturation of the asphalt-concrete mixture (ABS) decreases and the coefficient of water resistance increases with prolonged water saturation, which is a determining parameter of the technological properties of ABS.
  2. The compressive strength increases after prolonged water saturation.
  3. The tensile strength at splitting at 0 ° C increases significantly after 20 freeze-thaw cycles, which characterizes the frost resistance of ABS.

""Thus, when using AMDOR-9" and "AMDOR-10" adhesive additives, the moisture resistance and frost resistance of road surfaces increases, which leads to increased wear resistance and durability.

When using ""AMDOR-9"" and "AMDOR-10" adhesive additives in the amount of 1.5-5 kg/t of bitumen (0.15 - 0.50%):

a high degree of adhesion of bitumen to mineral materials is achieved
the plastic properties of ABS are improved, which contributes to the improvement of the envelopability, workability and mobility of ABS, their better sealing during rolling, reducing the caking of cold asphalt concrete it becomes possible to reduce bitumen consumption by 5-10%
it is possible to reduce the temperature of bitumen by 10-20 ° C during the preparation of hot asphalt mixtures
energy consumption for technological needs is reduced
the productivity of the ABZ equipment and road sealing machines is increasing
the season of road construction works is increasing
the service life of the road surface increases by 1.5-2 times
""AMDOR""""AMDOR-20T"" has recently developed a new adhesive additive, taking into account the requirements of road builders, which differs significantly from the additives AMDOR-9 and AMDOR-10 in chemical structure and has a number of operational advantages:

  • significantly higher thermal stability – up to 15 days
  • no unpleasant odor
  • retention of fluidity up to minus 8 °C
  • slowing down the aging of bitumen.

The recommended dosage of the additive is 0.1–0.4% by weight of the binder.

An important feature of the thermostable additive "AMDOR-20T" is an increase in the adhesive efficiency of bitumen with an additive at temperatures of 150-160 ° C during the first 2-3 days and its preservation for up to 15 days, which makes it possible to prepare and preserve bitumen with an additive for a sufficiently long time. Due to this feature of the additive, it can be introduced during mixing in bitumen and polymer bitumen industries, thereby reducing this operation by a paragraph.
