``` Rejuvenating additives are designed to restore the properties of aged bitumen in reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) and are used to produce asphalt concrete mixtures containing up to 80% RAP. The use of the additive ensures that the resulting asphalt concrete mixture meets the required regulatory specifications.
«AMDOR-VD» additives are manufactured primarily from renewable plant-based raw materials through multicomponent catalytic synthesis, without the use of petroleum products.
The use of «AMDOR-VD» ensures:
1 Clouding and sediment formation during prolonged storage are permitted, provided they do not affect the effectiveness of the product and disappear when heated to 70 °C and stirred.
2 The dosage of «AMDOR-VD» is determined by the amount of RAP used in the asphalt concrete mixture.
3 Optional parameter introduced for the collection of statistical data at asphalt concrete plants.
All rejuvenating additives in the proposed range are suitable for application both by spraying through a nozzle onto RAP and by direct injection into the bitumen pipeline before the material is fed into the mixer.
The average additive dosage is 4–6% (by weight of the RAP binder used), which corresponds to an average of 0.3–1.2 kg per 1 ton of asphalt concrete mixture.
The exact value depends on the initial properties of the binder and the amount of RAP used.
The effectiveness of each additive is rated from 4 to 8 points. The number of points corresponds to the number of penetration units by which the penetration depth of the needle into the bitumen increases when 1% of the additive is introduced. Thus, if the additive efficiency is 8 points, adding 4% of the additive will increase the penetration depth at 25 °C by (8∙4=32) 32 dmm.
The exact amount of rejuvenating additive can only be determined based on test results for the extracted RAP binder and its percentage content in the mixture.
We recommend a method that allows you to calculate an approximate dosage. The quantities of additive calculated in this way correspond to those determined through laboratory testing of actual mixtures.
The additive dosage is calculated as follows:
Select «AMDOR-VD» additive with an efficiency of 8 points for rejuvenation.
To calculate the required amount of additive, it is necessary to determine the penetration depth at 25 °C of the aged bitumen (GOST 33136-2014) after first extracting the binder from the RAP.
For example, the penetration depth at 25 °C of the extracted RAP binder is 35 dmm. The bitumen needs to be restored to the standard values of BND 70/100 grade. Accordingly, the calculation is as follows:
where ρт and ρф are the penetration depth values at 25 °C for the required and actual values, respectively;
AEC – additive efficiency coefficient (according to the table).
Therefore, 4.4% of the additive (by weight of the RAP binder) must be introduced into bitumen with a penetration depth of 35 dmm in order to achieve the standard penetration and other properties of BND 70/100 grade.
